Dear Friends In Christ,
I love Fall, and all of the beauty it brings. All of the colors seem to say all is well. Fall brings my favorite time of year, Thanksgiving! Because of the gratitude that I feel this year, I want to share with you what is in my heart.
First, thank you for your faithfulness in providing the needed finances this past year.I have been so blessed with being allowed to serve our communities for over thirty years. I am so grateful that God has allowed me to lift up his hurting children, families, and elderly. I walked that broken road for so much of my life, and I just want to lift others out of the pain and suffering.
Because of each of you, that have made the decision to stay by my side, I am still serving. My heart is so full of love, and I enjoy every moment that I get to serve my Savior Jesus Christ through Look Up Child 2 Hope, and our Senior Care Programs. May God bless each of you.
Financially, it has been a challenging year. The recovery from Helene has caused our balances to dwindle, but we still made it. At his time, I find that Look Up Child 2 Hope is in need of Thanksgiving Blessings, please. What better way to show our gratitude to God, than to care for those hurting, and in need of housing. Your gift this Thanksgiving will go to provide temporary and permanent housing costs. Please think about giving a gift to honor or to remember someone special in your life.
The greatest need for our community is for hotels, (temporary housing) stays, rent, deposits, affordable housing, food, clothing, and household items, in that order. This last year, Look Up Child 2 Hope spent approximately $25,000.00 for hotel stays alone. We spent another $22,000.00 in rent, and deposits. In clothing, food, and school supplies another $12,000.00. The total this year is $59,000.00.
At this time, we are working with 12 homeless families. They are all on the waiting list for housing, and other community services. They have nowhere else to turn, and have been referred to Look Up Child 2 Hope. Most of our referrals are coming from either DCS or the school system.
We have four families coming from abusive homes. In these four families, there are 17 children! Thanks to your kindness and faithfulness these children are out of dangerous
homes, however find themselves in need of hotel stays until we can get affordable
housing. Most our clients cannot afford community housing, and must wait for public
housing, and the wait can be very long. The wait for Section 8 assistance can be even longer.
I was evicted 9 times in ten years with my children, and I know the pain it causes. Housing first is real! You can’t get on your feet unless you have a place to live. Your children need that stability. When I became a social worker, it was that experience that has allowed God to use me, and He has tendered my heart with understanding. I have learned to not judge, but to truly listen. Then to be there as they go on their journey.
The agencies that have had federal funds to help in these areas, now are seeing them on hold. Look Up Child 2 Hope depends on your donations. You have been faithful, and for that I am grateful. I look forward to hearing from you very soon as we celebrate what God will do.
*Also, you have an opportunity to give for their Christmas. We have 145 children at this time that are not receiving Christmas through any other means. You may give a gift of any size, however a gift of $50.00, will fully sponsor a family.
I would love to say thank you to these wonderful people that have gone above
and beyond the call of service:
*Rev. James Cambron, Dr. Frank and Ellen Johnson, and the Mountain View’s
Glory Bound Sunday School Class
*Homer and Reginia G’Fellers, (Founders and Sustainers)
*Mr. Herb Seaton (Founding Donor and Sustainer)
*Mr. Garry Shipley (Founding Donor and Sustainer) *Barbara Ollis (Sustainer)
*Elizabethton Elks Lodge #1847, (Cindy Duffy) *Johnson City Elks Lodge #825
*Lisa Lyons at Little Blessings *Jonesborough UMC
*Sleep Zone (Mark Mattou) *WHCB (Janet and Kenneth Hill), and Love FM (April)
They have been faithful in all ways helping with our family’s needs. To each and all of you, I say thank you, and I am so very grateful for your kindness. May God bless, and keep you always in His great love.
In Proverbs 19:17, we hear these words: Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and He will repay him for his deed.
This is not why we give, but the promise brings peace to our souls. GOD IS WITH US!
In Service to Others and with my love, always,
Rev. Sarah C. Wells
December 1, 2024
It is so good to be able to come to you again to let you know what has been accomplished so far this year. It is with your help that we have been able to be God’s hands extended to our neighbors in need. I am most grateful that you have heard the cry of the needy in our own communities, and answered God’s call.
The disaster truly has been painful for so many. Look Up Child was called upon to help with hotel stays until housing was found for the newly homeless families and children. Thanks to your support, we were able to work with the Department of Children Services and local agencies to keep 32 children in hotels with the parents and not removed to foster homes. We have loved working with our DCS workers to keep children and parents together. The cost for the disaster relief was $5,200.00.
Christmas is quickly approaching, and I again ask for your help to meet the needs of the children and families that we are actively serving. Just getting food to feed their families is a nightmare.
Another, serious issue is the cost of rent has gone totally out of range of most low-income people and they cannot afford to pay. Many are facing eviction, and need our help.
I am so very grateful to each of you for your prayers and financial help. I now ask you to pray, and consider a gift to help provide Christmas gifts, and food for our families. We have 80 children, 40 have been adopted, and that leaves another 40 that need sponsors. The total need for Christmas is $3,200.00.
Our benevolence is depleted at the present, due to the disaster, and we need your help to continue to help with rent, rent and utility deposits, food, hotel stays, and clothes. We are in need of donations of children’s warm clothes, gift cards, and shoes at the present. I am so excited to praise God that a donor provided for the Thanksgiving and Christmas food baskets!! God is so very good. Thank you for hearing, praying, and answering the call to serve those that need our help so much.
In Christ’s Service,
Rev. Sarah C. Wells
Who is Look Up Child 2 Hope?
We are a non-profit, 501 © 3, Christian ministry, that serves low-income and homeless families with children, teens, and children in need of Christian counseling. Our services are at no charge to families who desire to have Christian counseling.
*This year we have started a second arm ministry to assist the low-income elderly. This is our Senior Snuggles Program.
Where Do Our Referrals Come From?
We receive our referrals from the Department of Children’s Services, Churches, hospice agencies, local community agencies, and parents seeking help.
Who are the Staff?
We are blessed with volunteers that are retired social workers, teachers, and ministers. *There are no salaries for anyone, we are all volunteers.
How are we funded?
We receive donations from individuals, churches, business, and through fundraising.
What are our expenses?
We pay only $350.00 per month for our physical office located in the Colonial Center in Johnson City, TN. That is a total of $4,200.00, per year.
Where does the balance of the donations go?
Everything else that is donated goes to care for the families, and children’s need of rent, rent deposits, utilities, hotel lodging, food, clothes, and school supplies. We do have two special programs that provide Resurrection Baskets for Easter with each child receiving a Bible in their basket, and the Back 2 School Program that provides school supplies, backpacks, clothing, and shoes.
